Mosquito XET Turbine Helicopter Full Review

If you ever dreamt of solar-powered helicopters then the good news for you is that you can now buy your own personal solar-powered helicopter for $40,000! The new Mosquito XET Turbine is a powered version of XE series. The Mosquito XET is designed by Dwight Junkin at Composite FX which uses custom gearboxes to handle the 71kw (95HP) Solar turbine with 16 x 5 x 7 dimensions.

By purchasing your very own Mosquito XET is made out of a unibody fiberglass construction which minimizes the weight of XET and maximizing structural efficiency. It is fundamentally safer as a personal aircraft with speed reach of up to 100mph with custom-built 71kw (95HP) solar turbine.

  1. Airframe

The Mosquito XET airframe is similar to the XE airframe with a unibody construction made of high-quality fiberglass in a vinyl ester matrix. The body and structure are the same to which minimizes weight and maximizes the structural efficiency.

  1. The Engine

It uses a solar turbine with 71kw (95HP) and custom gearbox.

  1. Power Train

A centrifugal clutch on the engine crankshaft starts engine without the load of the rotor and power is transmitted from the clutch to the driven pulley through an HTD cog belt. HTD cog belt is one of the highest powers to weight ratio power transmission in different methods available.

  1. The Control Systems

The control system of Mosquito is unique. The main rotor control is achieved from the floor mounted joystick and in the mast; it is collected through a control mixer in the base then, through push tubes to the base of the swash plate. The swash plate is supported by a push tube located in the rotor shaft. The Control rods present on either side of the push tube transmit inputs through the rotor shaft to the control lever and then down to the blade pitch horns through pitch links.

  1. The Rotor System

The Mosquito XET has the main rotor as a semi-rigid configuration. The main rotor blades consist of an aluminum spar bonded to a wrapped aluminum sheet skin. The tail rotor is also has a semi-rigid configuration with aluminum skin wrapped around a tube and foam plugs at either end. To maintain tail rotor alignment, a 45 degree drag hinge is utilized.
